Qualifications to be Candidate

In order to be a candidate for mayor, a person must be a resident of the city for not less than one year prior to the election

Qualifications to Hold Office

• Must be 25 years of age, or older
• Be a qualified voter in the city
• Reside in the city throughout the term of office

Duties and Responsiblities of the Mayor in a Commission and Manager Plan

• Preside at meetings of the legislative body
• Call special meetings of the legislative body
• Make and sign all bonds, notes contracts, and written obligations of the city
• Acts as the ceremonial head of the city government and is recognized as the head of the city government by the Governor for purpose of military law
